Mark your calendars - Theater Night!

21 03 2007

A Man of No Importance graphicJoin us for a night of entertainment as the Weekend Theater presents “A Man Of No Importance,” a musical about prejudice in which Alfie Byrne, an Oscar Wilde-loving bus driver in 1960’s Dublin, spends his off-hours directing an amateur group of thespians to amusing and ultimately disastrous results.

The performance, to be held on Thursday, May 10th, is a fundraising event for Little Rock Capital Pride, and is provided by the Weekend Theater’s benefit program. Tickets are $20 at the door, of which a significant portion goes to help fund LRCP’s main festival on June 3rd, 2007! A cash bar will also be available for beer, wine, and soft drinks.

RESERVE YOUR SEATS! Just e-mail Joe and give us your name, and how many seats you need. You can pick up and pay for your tickets the night of the performance, but we’ll make sure you have a seat!

Event Information

Musical Information
From the creators of Ragtime comes this funny, tender, and unassuming Irish musical about prejudice in which Alfie Byrne, an Oscar Wilde-loving bus driver in 1960’s Dublin, spends his off-hours directing an amateur group of thespian misfits called St. Imelda’s Players. The dedicated group is determined to stage the controversial “Salome” (complete with its scandalous ‘Dance of the Seven Veils’)—to humorous and disastrous results. The play’s sensuality raises the ire of rigidly moral Catholic church authorities, and in the ensuing struggle for art, we discover three appealing characters who are in a struggle themselves—with finding love, in what society calls, “all the wrong places”. Beautiful and spirited Irish melodies weave their way through this sometimes comic, ultimately moving, story of human passion that asks us to walk in the shoes of others and listen with our hearts.

This performance is part of the Weekend Theater’s “benefit” program, in which the final dress rehearsal before the premier performance is opened to specific non-profit organizations for the purpose of raising funds from within their membership. As part of the program, the theater company asks that we do not publicize the event outside of our membership. While you are welcome to e-mail your friends and family in regard to the performance to generate interest and solicit ticket sales, we ask that you do not place any banners or links on public websites about this fundraiser.

Are you ready to strut your stuff on the stage? This could be your big break!

Join us on Friday, May 25th at 8:00pm at the Factory, in Little Rock, to qualify for your chance to perform live at our pride festival! Just bring your PG-rated musical act, which needs to be at least three minutes in length, to our primaries on May 25th. Arrive at approximately 8:00pm so we can confirm your registration. There is no cost to perform, but there will be a cover for performers and audience members. We’ll put you on stage for your act, and the audience will decide the best acts that they want to see go on to our main event!

If you think you’re ready to take your talent to our stage, just send an e-mail to our event coordinator with your group or act name, what you’re planning to perform, and how many people are in your group (if it’s more than just you).

Audience members should bring their dollar bills, because they’ll be voting with them! The more “votes” by dollar bill that a contestant gets, the better the chance that they’ll go on to the pride festival! All money used for “votes” will be used to help fund the pride festival in June.

On Sunday, June 3rd, at our pride festival, you’ll have a chance to perform again in front of our audience, and a panel of judges, who will then crown our first Pride Idol!

Volunteer your time!

5 03 2007

As our Pride Festival approaches, we’re looking to begin filling our volunteer roster with folks who would like to assist us in organizing both fundraising events, and our actual festival on June 3rd.

We encourage everyone who would like to volunteer to head to our “Volunteer Form” to learn about what volunteer opportunities are available, and to submit their contact information!

Next Meeting, Saturday 03/03

2 03 2007

Don’t forget, our next meeting is Saturday, March the 3rd, starting at 3:00pm. (3-3 @ 3:00pm!)

The meeting will be held at the Central Arkansas Library (map) in the Friborough room (second floor, all the way at the back past the media desk).

We are entering a crucial stage of our Pride planning and truly need the input and participation of the community. Also, following the meeting we have invited organizers of other area “Pride” groups to join us (including Mid-South Pride/Memphis, Diversity Pride/Eureka Springs, Conway Pride and a newly formed group from Jonesboro) to discuss ways we can work together for mutual success.
